01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One diner who ordered the Chinese-style noodles to finish a night of drinking said they shared a bowl with friends. It came with a fairly rich soy-based broth, medium-thick curly noodles, sliced pork and a seasoned egg. The diner remembered the pronounced savoury depth of the stock and the way the noodles took on the flavour of the broth. The menu also includes soupless spring-onion noodles and grilled rice balls topped with egg yolk.

For a daytime meal, the braised pork belly is a tempting choice. A diner who ordered it for lunch described the sweet-savoury pork as tender without being too fatty, served as a set meal with rice, hijiki seaweed and pickles. Other substantial dishes include katsuni, pork cutlet simmered with egg, and tofu with pork in a light salt-seasoned broth.

For a drink with a few small plates, seasonal choices include water eggplant and cucumber dressed with plum, potato with butter and shuto tartare, and fried corn. The sake list gives the origin, style and price of each bottle; the tasting set of the day features 3 selections of 40 ml. Whether sharing several dishes or stopping in alone for a light drink before finishing with noodles, diners can put together a meal to suit the occasion.
